The high-tech boom has brought a new challenge — dealing with electronic waste (e-waste).

Old and dilapidated desktop and laptop computers, printers, mobile phones, pagers, digital photos and music devices, refrigerators, toys and televisions were among some of the main sources of waste listed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in its 2010 report: Recycling — From E-waste to Resources.
