Indonesian Plastic Recycling Association Lawsuit Was Denied by Supreme Court, Governor Regulation on Plastics Ban Prevails

DENPASAR, – Supreme Court judges with Dr. H. Supandi, S.H., M.hum. as chairman denied judicial review filed by Indonesian Plastic Recycling Association (ADUPI) regarding Bali Governor Regulation No. 97 Year 2018.

“This means Bali Governor Regulation that bans single plastic use in Bali prevails,” said Bali Governor Wayan Koster, on Thursday (7/11).

Koster affirmed that every party has to abide to the whole provisions in Bali Governor Regulation No. 97 Year 2018 to preserve the holiness and nature harmonization with all the things within as established in vision “Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali” through a planned universal development scheme towards a new era in Bali.

He encouraged all governors and other head regions to follow Bali steps. “Do not hesitate or fear. Supreme Court won this so the regulation has strong legal effect,” he said.

He also urged other governors to implement the same regulation in order to stop single plastic use in Indonesia.

He said thank you to all parties who support Bali Governor Regulation No. 97 Year 2018, including national government, environmental activists from various countries, and public policy observers.

“We will invite all parties who have supported the regulation to meet Bali Government in person,” he said.

“We’ll invite them on Bali Province’s anniversary day on August 14th, as a token of appreciation for them,” he added.

Meanwhile, Koster also urged plastic-related industries to transition to environmentally friendly industries.

“I will start urging local agency of industry and trade to propel new industries, new job opportunities. We will order industries that produce plastic straws to switch to environmentally friendly products,” said Koster.
